What we do - Harnas Wildlife Foundation

Harnas Wildlife Foundation is an entity established originally for the protection of animals, but has since grown to include welfare projects and nature conservation projects. Visitors to Harnas can enjoy quality and comfortable accommodation with a range of hospitality, whilst a range of programs attracts volunteers from across the globe.

Care at Harnas has been split into two main categories namely:

The Harnas Bio Platform

The Harnas Bio Platform is the base from which we manage all nature and environmental tasks and projects such as animal care, protection and rescue, nature research, release, establishment and upkeep of safe zones and special projects such as the Wild Dog Project.

The Harnas Social Commitment

The Harnas Social Commitment forms the link between Harnas and the community around it. Besides hospitality and the ever-growing Volunteer Program, Harnas Wildlife Foundation also works with local communities to improve the lives of the less privileged through various humanitarian projects. These projects include the Cheeky Cheetah School, medical outreach and social stability.

Animal Welfare

Conservation and protection of animals are the number one priority at Harnas and as such Harnas Wildlife Foundation has established a system to intervene when animal lives are threatened through human action or interference. We do so by rescuing animals from dangerous situations and collecting animals that have been captured by farmers and other individuals. Our intervention gives the animal a second chance by providing a safe environment in an enclosure as near as possible to their natural habitat. Where and when possible, Harnas works with other Wildlife Conservation Agencies to release animals in dedicated protected sites in Namibia.

Environmental Protection

Harnas Wildlife Foundation also supports the continuous development of new concepts to better care for our planet.

Visitors and Hospitality:

Feeding animals is an expensive reality. In 1993, Harnas Wildlife Foundation opened its farm gates to the public for the first time. Since then Harnas Wildlife Foundation has strived to deliver the best service we can to our visitors whether they are guests or volunteers. Due to the nature of our business, the safety of our visitors is paramount to our business and we take human animal interaction very serious. As for our lodges, camping and any other accommodation, we believe in comfort, quality, privacy, hygiene and an overall positive experience.
